Thus the Schmersal Group is putting into effect on a formal legal level what has already been proving its worth for a long time: the product spectra of both companies have growth together since Schmersal took over the then specialists in low voltage switch devices in 1997. Since then Elan has been focusing increasingly strongly on the development and production of switch devices for operating and monitoring safety relay modules and safety-related control technology. Moreover the Wettenberg location is the competence centre for safety-related radio technology and explosion protection within the Schmersal Group.
The location will retain these specialisations, the development and production capacities will also remain in place in Wettenberg. According to Dipl. Wirt.-Ing. Philip Schmersal, Managing Director of the Schmersal Group: “With the consolidation of the company we emphasis the systems concept. More and more customers buy complete solutions for machine safety from us with safety switch devices ‘made in Wuppertal’ and the associated evaluation electronics from the Elan portfolio. Both come from the same company and are perfectly coordinated with each other. That now becomes clear at first glance through the harmonisation of the company name and the brand name.”
From the customers’ point of view the only thing that changes is that in sales he has only central contact persons for the whole Schmersal product programme and all Schmersal products are now stored in the joint online catalogue www.schmersal.net with all relevant technical data.
In a few weeks the logistics for both locations will also be merged. Then the central Europe logistics centre of the Schmersal Group in Wuppertal will commence operation.
