(19.09.2007) The European Directives EN 81-28 (“Safety rules for the construction and the installation of lifts – Part 28: Remote alarm on passenger and goods passenger lifts”) and EN 81-80 (“Rules for the improvement of safety of existing passenger and goods passenger lifts”, also known as SNEL or Safety Norm for Existing Lifts) require that “any lifting appliance serving specific levels, having a car moving along guides which are rigid and inclined at an angle of more than 15 degrees to the horizontal and intended for the transport of persons, persons and goods or goods alone if the car is accessible, that is to say a person may enter it without difficulty, and fitted with controls situated inside the car or within reach of a person inside” - in other words any lift, both new and existing – “must be fitted with two-way means of communication allowing permanent contact with a rescue service”. more |
