ENERGY Monitoring AS AN IIOT SOLUTION

tec.nicum offers an enhanced range of services which includes energy monitoring

Following the dramatic rise in electricity prices, energy consumption is becoming an increasingly important variable that needs be carefully influenced. Energy management systems have long offered a solution. But only now is there an IIoT-supported application for the capture and optimisation of energy consumption, which – as in many other areas of digitalisation – promises considerable added value.

ELECTROMECHANICAL SOLENOID INTERLOCK 2.0

With the AZM 150, Schmersal offers a compact electromechanical solenoid interlock for mounting to standard profile systems.

It doesn’t always have to be electronics. When selecting solenoid interlocks, an electromechanical switching device can be either sufficient or even better, depending on the application profile. This is shown by the example of a compact and universally applicable series from Schmersal, which has been revised and is now available in a new model version.

 FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS AT A GLANCE

The Industrial Internet of Things: Collecting data, analysing information and improving production

The Industrial Internet of Things or IIoT has an important role to play as both a technology and a concept within the fourth industrial revolution. Devices, machinery and applications are being networked together so that they can share data and information. These can then be evaluated and analysed, thus helping to contribute to improvements in the efficiency of production and to minimising downtimes. But exactly how can this concept be implemented, and what benefits does it actually offer? Volker Heinzer, strategic product manager at the Schmersal Group, offers answers to these and other questions in this interview.

MACHINE SAFETY IN THE PHARMACEUTICAL AND FOOD INDUSTRY

Cutting frozen products – but safely

Food manufacturers around the world use Magurit freeze cutters. The company sets standards in terms of quality, productivity and machine safety. It therefore goes without saying that the components installed, such as safety switchgear from Schmersal, must also fulfil the high standards. Added to this are requirements such as tamper protection and hygienic design. In the following article, you will find out what is important and what solutions are available.

TIME-OF-FLIGHT CAMERA FOR AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGY

3D view of intralogistics processes

A 3D camera expands the options offered by sensor systems in intralogistics by another dimension. This allows the camera to offer precise real-time capture of fill levels or a comprehensive view of the process. In addition, it can also be used as the ‘eye’ of IIoT applications, allowing it to determine KPIs such as ‘Overall Equipment Efficiency’ (OEE).

A GLIMPSE INTO THE STANDARDS JUNGLE

Practical application of new standards based on a project example

When planning and designing a machine plant, there is a range of standards and directives that must be taken into account, and it can be easy to lose track. If those standards then get amended while the project is ongoing, you need to pay special attention. Using an intralogistics project as an example, we’ll show you why functional machine safety is so complex and what needs to be taken into account in different areas of machine and systems engineering.
